According to the Daily Mail (h/t Metro), Tottenham Hotspur are keeping close tabs and are set to rival Chelsea in the race to sign Brighton and Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard.

The Belgian international, who has his contract on the south coast expiring at the end of this season (Transfermarkt), hasn’t featured in the last two Seagulls games despite being fit. He was left on the bench against Everton and was not in the squad for the FA Cup tie altogether.

It also does not seem like the 27-year-old is signing an extension with Brighton, so his days at the Amex Stadium are numbered either way. Along with Chelsea and now Tottenham, Newcastle United are also interested in signing him.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte could be attracted by Trossard’s profile as the Belgian can play in multiple positions, including anywhere in the forward line and also as a wing-back. In Conte’s system, all these positions are key.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have been linked with the former Genk player ever since the former Brighton boss Graham Potter has taken over the job at Stamford Bridge.

With the qualities he possesses and the form he has shown this season, Trossard could be a good low-budget signing for the Blues as well. He is good in the final third, can score and create goals, works hard off the ball and the versatile profile is an instant attraction.

Moreover, if there is to be a race, Chelsea should be leading it because Potter has worked with the player before and there might be a former allegiance advantage for the Blues. It remains to be seen whether the manager wants to work with the 27-year-old again though.

More Chelsea News:

We do lack dynamism and lethality in the final third. Trossard, though not a striker by trade, can offer a threat that has been lacking from the current crop of Chelsea attackers. He won’t be the biggest name to arrive at Stamford Bridge neither is he an up-and-coming talent at the age of 27, but he can do a job for us and instantly increase our squad depth and quality up front.
