‘Never say never”- PL rivals not keen on January exits amidst Chelsea interest in star attacker

Chelsea set to gatecrash the North London battle to sign Leandro Trossard.

Brighton chief not willing to do any business in January amidst Chelsea interest in Leandro Trossard

Speaking to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs (h/t Football.London), Brighton and Hove Albion chief Paul Barber is not willing to departure business this month amidst Chelsea interest in the Seagulls forward Leandro Trossard.

The Belgium international has his contract expiring at the end of this season at Brighton (Transfermarkt). Chelsea have been linked with him ever since former Seagulls boss Graham Potter joined the Blues.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will wait for his contract to expire before making a move, or try a cut-price deal in January to bolster their forward line. Here’s what Barber said regarding his unwillingness to do business, but things may change (h/t Football.London):

“You can never say never about anything in this business.

“We are very realistic we are going to have interest in Alexis, we are going to have interest in Moises, we are going to have interest in Rob Sanchez. We had eight players at the World Cup, more than any other time in the club’s history combined.

“It doesn’t change anything. If it’s right for us, we will do something. If it isn’t right for us or right for our player, we certainly wouldn’t. No plans to do anything in this winter window of any note, but of course you can never say never about anything in this business.”

Not only Trossard but Chelsea have also been linked with Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister of Brighton. So, the Blues have a deep-vented interest in some of the key players on the south coast.

The Belgian has had an excellent season so far, scoring seven goals and assisting three in 16 league games. His hat-trick at Anfield to earn Brighton a deserved point was the highlight of this campaign.

Trossard is a versatile forward who can play anywhere across multiple positions up front. He is a goal threat and can create chances. Off the ball, he is a monster because he never stops running for his team in a bid to recover the ball as quickly as possible.

Irrespective of whether we go after signing him now or in the summer, the 28-year-old could be a valuable low-budget signing for the club. The former Genk player has worked with Potter before, so the adaptation period won’t be long tactically.

We are struggling at the moment. There is no form, no confidence and no goals in the team. Only signing the right players will improve the situation.
