Hometown club of David Datro Fofana writes to FIFA to cancel his Chelsea move
According to Mirror, Abidjan City, the hometown and former club of David Datro Fofana, has written to FIFA to cancel his move to Chelsea.
The Blues completed the signing of the Ivory Coast striker this month after agreeing on a deal with the Norwegian side Molde. He signed a six-and-a-half-year contract with the club.
But, that move is in danger of getting slashed off after Abidjan are outraged by the fact that the player’s move to Molde was unlawful.
A dispute stemmed between Fofana’s mother and Abidjan over whether she signed a consent form in 2016. As a result, the Ivorian club are claiming his move to Molde was unlawful.
Now, how much of it is true cannot be determined. If Abidjan had issues with the striker’s move to Molde, why didn’t they write to FIFA about it in 2021, when he actually made a move to Norway?
If all this gets cleared, which we hope gets done sooner rather than later, Fofana could be an important signing for Chelsea in the future.
The 20-year-old had a great time at Molde before this move. In the last Norwegian league he played in, the Ivorian scored 15 goals and assisted five in 24 appearances. He is a striker who can play on either side of the wing.
We do have problems up front with how little Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are doing. The injury to Armando Broja is not helping matters.

If the club fails to sign another striker this month, we could see Fofana getting more game time this season than first expected. He has the talent and quality to fit in the Chelsea shirt though. Whether he has the composure to handle the pressure and deliver, remains to be seen.
