A look at the injured Chelsea stars ahead of FA Cup clash against Manchester City

According to football.london, Chelsea will be without ten stars ahead of their FA Cup clash against Premier League champions Manchester City.

This is the second time that the Blues will face off against Pep Guardiola’s men in the matter of a week. Graham Potter’s men put in a spirited performance at Stamford Bridge but eventually fell to a 1-0 loss courtesy of Riyad Mahrez in their Premier League fixture earlier in the week.

Chelsea will not make the journey to The Etihad for the tie on Sunday. The Blues have the dubious distinction of making it to the final of the FA Cup for the last three years in a row only to come out second best in the showpiece event.

Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic were taken off injured midweek and now look set for a spell on the sidelines. The former is set to undergo a scan that will determine the full extent of his hamstring injury. The latter, meanwhile, was visibly distressed on the pitch and is also out for the foreseeable future.

Mason Mount also got injured in training and is now unavailable. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and N’Golo Kante are also unavailable, further limiting Potter’s options in the middle of the park. Loftus-Cheek should return in the next couple of weeks while Kante is still a month away from resuming training.

The defence isn’t faring any better with Edouard Mendy, Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Wesley Fofana all out. Chilwell and James are still a month away from returning while Fofana could return in January. There is yet no concrete information of how close Mendy is to making a full recovery.

Armando Broja is our long term absentee and will only return to action towards the end of 2023, which is a shame considering this could have been a big season for him after Romelu Lukaku’s temporary departure. To call our injury list long would be an understatement.

Graham Potter has his work cut out and could do with reinforcements this summer. Hopefully results will start to pick up as more of our ace players return to action. The trip to Manchester could prove to be an interesting one should the players put in a performance similar to the one earlier in the week.
