Chelsea open talks with Flamengo for Gerson
According to Brazilian publication Globo Esporte (h/t Express), Chelsea are in talks with Flamengo regarding Brazilian midfielder Gerson.
A central midfielder who is also capable of playing an attacking role, Gerson played a crucial role as Flamengo won both the Campeonato Brasileiro and the Copa Libertadores in 2019.
He also played in the final of the World Club Cup as the Brazilian fell agonizingly short in the final to European champions Liverpool.
Chelsea are keen to add the player to their midfield ranks and have held discussions with his agent Giuliano Bertolucci.
The Blues have a healthy relationship with the agent, who had earlier brokered deals involving David Luiz, Lucas Piazon, Alex and Oscar. (h/t Express)
However, we are not the only team in for the Brazilian. Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are also keeping tabs on the player.
The report also goes on to claim that the player’s father has confirmed that the talks had indeed taken place. An engine of a player, Gerson’s athleticism and versatility will add mobility and strength to the Chelsea midfield. (h/t Express)
Gerson also has the experience of having played in Europe. He spent three seasons in Italy before he returned to his homeland in a deal worth £10.5million. This made him the most expensive Brazilian player ever signed by a Brazilian club. (h/t Express)
Chelsea have already signed Hakim Ziyech and have a deal for Timo Werner in the pipeline. The club, however, look set to continue their shopping spree with Gerson.
