Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Chelsea target Denzel Dumfries
According to reports in Italy (h/t Football. London), Tottenham are really interested in Inter Milan right-wing-back Denzel Dumfries and could provide Chelsea competition in his pursuit.
The Blues have been linked with a move for the talented Dutchman for quite some time now. Dumfries is extremely talented and it is not a surprise to see many clubs lining him up.
A very attacking wing-back, Dumfries is excellent at getting forward but he can also hold his own defensively. He is one of the stars of his national team and has emerged as a major creative outlet since the Euros.
The 26-year-old has been with Inter Milan for a couple of seasons now. His performances for the Italian club have been very good to say the least and he continues being one of the first names on the teamsheet there.
Chelsea already have a very talented right-back in Reece James. When fit, not many players in the world come close to the Blues defender in terms of sheer quality but injuries have really troubled him.
The Blues have had enough and more experiences to realise that it is not such a wise thing to go in with just James as their option in that position despite the fact the Cesar Azpilicueta also plays there.
Dumfries in that sense would be an amazing acquisition by the club. He is one of the closest we can get to Reece James in terms of sheer attacking ability and he can be useful for Potter and the club.
The thing with the Dutchman though is that most of his performances have come in a wing-back role. Potter has shown a tendency to switch to a back four at Chelsea and we don’t know how Dumfries will fit in.

If Dumfries can adapt to this slight positional change which he is more than capable of doing, this is a signing that Chelsea must seriously consider. It will not be easy with Tottenham in the fray and maybe we can use our trophy cabinet to convince him to move to Stamford Bridge.
