Cesar Azpilicueta was openly critical of Chelsea following the draw against Nottingham Forest
Speaking to Sky Sports as quoted by the Mirror, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta was very critical in his assessment of the club in his post-match interview after the Blues’ 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.
Azpilicueta started the game in the absence of Reece James who is out with yet another injury. To be fair to Chelsea, they started the game pretty well and even took an early lead courtesy of Raheem Sterling.
The first half pretty much belonged to Graham Potter’s men and they were quite clinical in the way they controlled the game except for the odd moment in which Forest broke away on the counter.
However, the game completely changed in the second half. The Blues lost the control they had on the game and conceded far too many chances, one of which was indeed converted by Forest.
The Blues failed to threaten at all in the second half and did not have a single shot on target and if any team looked like walking away with the three points from last night’s game, it was not Chelsea.
Speaking about the dismal showing from Chelsea, club captain Azpilicueta certainly did not mince his words in his rather critical assessment of the way his team have been playing so far.
“We’re disappointed, of course. That was not the way we wanted to start the new year and we’re disappointed to lose two points. Every game that you don’t win is another chance missed, but this is the reality and when you see the table, this is where we are. We need to have a very good second half of the season if we want to achieve a Champions League spot next season”
It was a rather familiar tale for Chelsea this season with the club failing to play to their potential and struggling to get results going their way. Graham Potter needs to take a serious assessment of his tactics.
The Blues are very lethargic in possession and the excitement with which Potter’s Brighton played is really missing here at Chelsea, despite the fact that he has a far superior squad here with all due respect to the seagulls.
