Roberto Carlos names Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech as one of the best players in the World Cup
As quoted by Football.London, Brazil legend Roberto Carlos has named Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech as one of the best players in the World Cup.
Ziyech played a vital role in leading Morocco to the semi-final of the World Cup. The Atlas Lions became the first African side to reach that far in doing so.
Even though they lost the semi-final to France and the third-place tie to Croatia, they were one of the stories of the tournament, along with the eventual winners Argentina.
When asked about the best players in the tournament position and technicality-wise, here’s what Carlos replied (h/t Football.London):
“Livakovic, Otamendi, Alex Sandro, Tchouameni, Ziyech, Mbappe and Modric.”
Before the World Cup though, Ziyech hardly played for Chelsea during the first half of this season. In total, the winger played 270 minutes of football for the Blues so far.
The 29-year-old has been on the fringes of things at Stamford Bridge since he arrived from Ajax in 2020. Under either of the three managers he has played under so far, no one has been able to get him on their side regularly.
Manchester United legend Roy Keane talked about how Ziyech has looked like a different player at the World Cup compared to what he has shown at the club level. Arsenal legend Ian Wright echoed similar sentiments.
The Moroccan star has been linked with a move to AC Milan. A few weeks ago, there was a report stating that the Serie A champions are preparing a bid to sign the player in January on loan, with an option to buy him in the summer.

As much as we would like to see him stay and rejuvenate his career at Chelsea, it feels as if it is a matter of time before Ziyech leaves. It would be a shame though because he is a quality player, who proved that on the world stage in the last month.
