Chelsea join the race to sign Arsenal’s number one target Mykhaylo Mudryk
Chelsea are looking to land a significant blow to their rivals Arsenal in their pursuit of Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk by making him a transfer interest. This is according to Calciomercato (h/t Football. London).
The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with the Gooners since the summer, with the north London club even missing out on the Ukrainian international during the summer. They have not given up on their interest and the winger appears to be a transfer priority for the league leaders.
However, the Blues could look to spoil the party for their neighbours and have taken up an interest in the young winger. The west London club has been investing in young players with good potential and the 21-year-old fits such a bill.
Mudryk has been enjoying a fantastic season so far. The winger has played in 18 games in all competitions scoring 10 goals and assisting another eight in the process. He also has three goals in six Champions League appearances for Shakhtar.
Graham Potter needs to reinforce his attack after a poor showing by his forwards during the first half of the season. The likes of Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz have all struggled in front of the goal.
Hakim Ziyech and Pulisic also have uncertain futures and it will be surprising if they stay put at the club for the rest of the season. As such, getting in an in-form player like Mudryk would make sense. The 21-year-old can play on either side of the wings and even as an attacking midfielder whenever required.
But the Ukrainian club are wanting at least £88 million to allow their star player to leave next month. The winger sees his current contract expire in 2026, giving advantage to his current employers to bargain a deal of their liking.
