Chelsea send message to Hakim Ziyech after Morocco make FIFA World Cup history

Chelsea star, Hakim Ziyech, with Morocco teammate Achraf Hakimi, stands for the national anthem.

Chelsea with a message for Hakim Ziyech after Morocco’s historic win in the World Cup

Chelsea sent a lovely message through their tweet to Hakim Ziyech after he and Morocco made history by beating Portugal in the quarter-final of the World Cup (Chelsea Official Twitter).

A goal from Youssef En-Nesyri where he outjumped Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa in the dying embers of the first half was enough for the African side to hold out for the win.

This is the first time an African country has reached the semi-final of the World Cup. A tournament that is being hosted by an Arab nation, Morocco is holding its fort for the whole of Africa and the Arab world.

Ziyech once again had an excellent game, although most of his good work came without possession. With a few minutes remaining, he was subbed off after picking up a niggle.

He and the whole of Morocco would be hoping that the injury is not too bad to make him sit out the historic semi-final against England or France on Wednesday (December 14th).

Before the World Cup, Ziyech was desperate to do well in the tournament as he wanted to convince Serie A champions AC Milan to pull the trigger on a deal to sign him.

A few days ago, Manchester United legend Roy Keane talked about how the 29-year-old has looked like a different player for Morocco compared to how he has been for Chelsea in the last two years.

The former Ajax winger has been on the fringes at Stamford Bridge since arriving in 2020. He has not been able to break through the XI under either of the three managers played under so far.

Whether an inspired showing in the World Cup would push Blues manager Graham Potter to keep and use him in the second half of this season, remains to be seen.

More Chelsea News:

AC Milan, on the other hand, are readying a bid to sign him on loan in January with an option to buy in the summer. The player likely leaves Stamford Bridge next month, which would be a shame given how good he is. However, we never could see the best of him in a Chelsea shirt.
