Transfer News: Chelsea receive boost in pursuit of Joao Felix as Bayern Munich no longer in the running
Chelsea have received a boost in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid and Portuguese international Joao Felix after German giants Bayern Munich are no longer in the running for the forward, according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Football. London).
The 23-year-old’s future seems to be uncertain at the Spanish club and as such the Blues along with rivals Arsenal are interested in the player. The Madrid-based club have also slapped a whopping £100 million price tag on their star forward.
Felix has had interest from the west London club for some time now. The Blues were interested in him during his Benfica days and even chased him in 2019 before he decided to join Atletico in a big-money move.
Bundesliga giants Bayern were also in the mix for the young forward, but are now longer interested in the Portuguese international. Their dropping out of the race will no doubt serve as a major boost for the Blues in their pursuit of the 23-year-old.
Felix has been enjoying a decent World Cup so far with the Selecao. The former Benfica man has played in four games for his country, scoring one goal and registering another two assists as they crashed out of the tournament after losing 1-0 to Morocco in the quarter-finals.
Chelsea have struggled for goals up front this season. The forwards have not been able to find the back of the net, despite Graham Potter playing with an attacking set-up. Felix has shown what he is capable of doing if played in an attacking set-up and Potter could do with someone like him.
However, it remains to be seen if the Blues are prepared to spend such big money on a young forward who is yet to prove himself worthy of such an amount. Rivals Arsenal have trusted in their youth this season and reaped the rewards, something that is yet to happen at SW6.
