Chelsea given Jadon Sancho transfer boost by Manchester United
According to the Standard (h/t Express), Manchester United vice-chairman Ed Woodward has given Chelsea a boost in their attempts to sign Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho.
Woodward is keen to reduce the asking price for the wonderkid, who has continued to take the Bundesliga by storm.
According to the report, the comments could be seen as an effort to lower the asking price of a player valued at £120million. Woodward might as well have scored an own goal for his side by taking the approach.
A reduction in the asking fee will also benefit Chelsea, who have provided Frank Lampard with a sizable transfer kitty. Although both clubs are not immune to the financial setbacks brought upon by the coronavirus, Chelsea are in a better position now after Woodward’s comments.
Dortmund, on the other hand, are keen to keep hold of their prized possession. The Germans hope to convince the player to sign a new contract and are willing to boost his salary by £3.5million. Such a move will see the 20-year-old become the second best-paid player in the Bundesliga.
The Germans are adamant that they will not sell below their asking price and have stated that they will not lower the valuation in spite of examining their current financial status.
“We don’t have to sell anyone below their value.”
A deal will see Dortmund make a massive profit on a player they brought for £8million in 2017.
Sancho made the Bundesliga Team of the Year last season at the age of 19. He has scored 17 goals and has provided 19 assists in just 35 appearances.
