Transfer News: Inter Milan trying to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on loan for another season
Inter Milan are trying to sign Chelsea striker and Belgium international Romelu Lukaku on loan for another season, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail).
This comes after the Blues made it clear that they do not want the 29-year-old back in west London. The striker moved back to the Bridge in 2021 for a whopping £97.5 million fee from the Nerazzurri.
However, he struggled in front of goal and after enduring a disappointing last season, he was shipped out on loan to his former side in June. He has struggled for both fitness and form there as well.
Lukaku has only managed to play five games in all competitions for the Milan-based outfit this season, scoring two goals in the process. He was still named in the Belgium squad for the World Cup, but he had a tournament to forget.
Featuring in two games for his side, the 29-year-old made the headlines during his side’s final group-stage game against Croatia last week. The striker missed four huge chances during the 0-0 draw against the Croats and subsequently saw his country crash out of the tournament in the group stage itself.
It is not surprising that the west London club does not want him back. The striker has struggled to stay fit and his disappointing World Cup has also not helped his cause. If anything, it is really surprising to see the Italian side wanting the player back for another season.
Maybe the Serie A side are hoping that the striker will find his form and help them win the Scudetto again, similar to what he did during the 2020/21 season. The 29-year-old scored 24 goals in 36 league appearances to help the Nerazzurri win the title that season.

Inter can be optimistic about loaning in Lukaku for another campaign unless the Blues have a change of heart. If we don’t find a new striker in the next few transfer windows, perhaps the former Manchester United and Everton striker could have another lease of life at Chelsea.
