Chelsea keen to revamp key defensive position as Graham Potter seeks a restructure

Graham Potter will be given two more games to save his job at Chelsea.

Chelsea ready to sell Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga to bring in a new goalkeeper

According to the Sun (h/t Metro), Chelsea are ready to sell Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga as Graham Potter eyes up a new goalkeeper.

The Blues signed Kepa in 2018 from Athletic Bilbao but did not have a great time in the first couple of seasons at Stamford Bridge.

To replace him, former manager Frank Lampard signed Mendy from French side Rennes during the 2020 summer transfer window.

Since then till the end of last season, the Senegal international was in great form for the Blues and the ultimate first-choice keeper under Lampard and then Thomas Tuchel.

However, Mendy lost form in the latter half of last season and started this campaign shakily. After picking up an injury against West Ham United, Kepa was restored in goal by new boss Graham Potter.

The Spaniard was doing well until he picked up an injury against Brighton and Hove Albion. Potter had to go back with Mendy for the remaining games before the World Cup.

While Kepa missed the tournament in Qatar due to an injury, Mendy made a horror start against the Netherlands before doing well in the following games against Qatar and Ecuador.

Both Kepa and Mendy have their respective contracts expiring in the summer of 2025. A few weeks ago, Potter made it clear that he has not decided on his number one and will let football decide for him (Mirror).

Now, it seems as if he is willing to let them go and buy a new goalkeeper in the summer. Will that be a good option? Remains to be seen. Historically, Potter has preferred goalkeepers who are comfortable with the ball at their feet.

Both Kepa and Mendy have shown weaknesses in that area of the game during their time at Chelsea. So, we might bow down to the manager’s demands and let them go.
