Liverpool and Juventus track Mason Mount after Chelsea contract stand-off
According to the Guardian, Premier League giants Liverpool and Serie A heavyweights Juventus are tracking Chelsea star Mason Mount after his contract stand-off with the Blues.
Mount’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2024. So, there are 18 months left before he can leave the club for free unless an extension is agreed upon.
Discussions for a new deal have been taking place since the summer, but there has been no breakthrough so far. With the World Cup starting in a few days’ time, any further negotiation will be done after the tournament.
Chelsea owners have no intention of letting their star player go. They are rather confident that the contract negotiation will end on a positive note, however much time it takes.
Mount is currently one of the lowest-paid players at the club. He wanted a new deal with pay that reflects his status as one of the important players in the team with the potential to become the captain in the future.
The club hierarchy also wants to reward him with a bumper new deal. But, the initial offer fell below the player’s expectations. That has led to a conscience that a new contract agreement is not a guarantee, hence the interest from Liverpool and Juventus.
Ideally, the Blues would want this wrapped up as soon as the player comes back from the World Cup. The more it drags on in early 2023, the more there are chances that other clubs could tempt him away from west London.
Mount is one of the star players in the Chelsea line-up. He has been a Blue throughout, having graduated from the academy to the senior team via a successful loan spell at Derby County.
