Transfer News: Chelsea coach Graham Potter is not interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo

Chelsea boss Graham Potter does not want his side to sign Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. This is despite co-owner Todd Boehly’s close relationship with his agent Jorge Mendes, according to the Daily Mail.

The Portuguese international wanted to leave the Reds in the summer, with west London being one of the options. However, the then coach Thomas Tuchel snubbed the move for the 37-year-old.

Now, the United star is under fire after his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, earlier this week. The five-time Ballon D’Or winner has criticised his club and manager Erik ten Hag in the interview and claims was ‘betrayed’ by the club.

And as such there were reports that his agent had again offered the player to multiple clubs throughout Europe, including Chelsea, Newcastle United, Bayern Munich and Sporting Lisbon.

While Boehly could not sign him in the summer due to Tuchel, it is looking like the same thing will happen again in January. Potter is also against signing the veteran.

It is a wise move on Potter’s part. While Ronaldo’s goal-scoring achievements speak for themselves, his age and recent form may not make his transfer an unsuccessful one on the pitch.

Also, there are off-the-pitch problems that we all are seeing at United. Having such a player would likely create problems for the Blues, which the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager would be wise to avoid.

It is better to retain squad harmony rather than sign a player who could resort to tantrums if he isn’t being handed playing time. Moreover, his disrespect for manager Erik ten Hag raises questions about how he would respond to an authority figure.

More Chelsea News:

Ronaldo will lead his country at the World Cup this year. The Portuguese international will hope to get on the scoresheet to maximise his chances of finding a new club in January. Whether Potter changes his stance after the World Cup is something that remains to be seen.
