Chelsea are confident that Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana and Reece James will return from injury after the World Cup
Chelsea are confident that the defensive trio of Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana and Reece James will be available for selection after the World Cup ends next month, according to the Evening Standard.
Fofana picked up his injury against AC Milan in the Champions League last month and has not featured for the club since. The summer signing is recovering well from his injury but will miss the World Cup with France later this month.
James picked up a knee injury during his side’s 2-0 win over Milan last month. The 22-year-old had been one of the best players for his side this season, but will not be travelling to Qatar later this month.
As for Chilwell, the England international picked up an injury during his side’s 2-1 home win over Dinamo Zagreb earlier this month. His hamstring injury has also ended his hope of playing in this year’s World Cup.
Such injuries to first-team players has reduced Graham Potter’s options for the next game against Newcastle United this Saturday (12 November). The manager will also be without N’Golo Kante and Kepa Arrizabalaga, with both players also on the sidelines.
If this was not enough, there are also doubts over the fitness of Jorginho and Carney Chukwuemeka, adding another headache for the gaffer before his side’s final Premier League game before the break for the World Cup starts.
