Graham Potter is interested in signing Leandro Trossard for Chelsea
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t Express), Chelsea boss Graham Potter is a huge fan of Belgian winger Leandro Trossard who he coached during his time at Brighton and the 27-year-old could be subject to interest from many clubs in 2023.
Trossard has had a great start to the season with the Seagulls. He just scored a hattrick against Liverpool in Brighton’s impressive 3-3 draw with Liverpool. The 27-year-old has been very impressive and has made a great start to life under new manager Roberto de Zerbi.
The 27-year-old Belgian talent joined the Premier League club from Genk in 2019 and has since then gone on to establish himself as an important player in Potter’s project at the Amex stadium. However, the English manager has now jumped ship and left for Chelsea.
This season, Trossard has played seven games for the Seagulls in the Premier League scoring five goals and providing two assists until now. If he can continue producing similar numbers, there is no doubt that many clubs will take note of the Belgian.
Chelsea were heavily linked with a move for Moises Caicedo, another player who Potter coached during his time at Brighton. However, it has now emerged that the English manager could probably look to sign the Belgian winger for the Blues.
It is not new to see a manager who moves from one club to another being linked with raiding his former club for the talented players there. With Potter, he is someone who developed most of the players who are playing for the Seagulls right now and will want to sign a few of them up.
Trossard has a contract that expires in 2023 (transfermarkt). This means that the Belgian wide-man could be available for a cut-price deal in January and it remains to be seen if the Blues jump on the opportunity and decide to sign the talented 27-year-old.
It will take us a little bit more time to understand what kind of system Potter plans to implement at Chelsea. He went with a 4-2-2-2 against Crystal Palace in his first game in charge but we would get a better idea of how Trossard could fit in as time goes.
