Transfer News: Chelsea target Arsen Zakharyan considering Armenian citizenship to speed up potential transfer
In what will come as a major boost for Chelsea in their pursuit of Arsen Zakharyan, the 19-year-old is considering requesting Armenian citizenship, according to journalist Hrach Khachatryan via Twitter (h/t football. london)
The Blues were interested in the midfielder during the summer and came close to sealing a move for him. However, the FA stopped that from happening due to the sanctions against Russia by the UK government. The midfielder currently plays for Russian side Dynamo Moscow.
Such sanctions were also the reason why previous club owner Roman Abramovich had to sell the west London club earlier this year. New owner Todd Boehly is still interested in the attacking midfielder and could now again try to bring him to the club.
If the process is a success then the Blues could have very little trouble landing the player they have been after for some time now. With the player himself considering such a step would indicate his willingness to play for the west London club.
Zakharyan is a very talented midfielder for his age. The Russian international was on fire last season when he scored nine goals and provided nine assists in 34 games for his club in all competitions. Such numbers are very impressive for a 19-year-old.
It is likely that if the midfielder is signed he will follow the same path as Cesar Casadei. The attacking midfielder will play for the academy upon arrival and then be sent out on loan to gain experience to prepare himself for the senior team.
The attacking midfielder is also capable of playing on either side of the wings, making him a very versatile player to have in one’s squad. With Graham Potter at the helm, the midfielder could reach his true potential under the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager.

It remains to be seen if the following process is a success or not. If it is, the fans would be delighted to see the arrival of such a young talent to their team. One can only hope that he signs for the Blues in January before things get any more complicated.
