Transfer News: Manchester City join race to sign Milan Skriniar amid Chelsea interest
Manchester City are set to join the race for Milan Skriniar amid Chelsea interest, according to a report in the Daily Star. London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the 27-year-old.
Skriniar sees his current contract expire next year. The Inter Milan centre-back was also subject to a long and unsuccessful approach from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Chelsea have been keeping an eye on the Slovakian for a few years now. He could be available for a free transfer next summer, but the west London club won’t be the only available destination.
The defender joined Inter in 2017 from Sampdoria for around £15 million. Since then, the 27-year-old has established himself in the team. He has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the Nerazzurri.
Inter are keen to tie him down to a new deal, but nothing has yet been finalised between the two parties. Chelsea spent good money on reinforcing their defence this summer, including paying £69.5 million for Wesley Fofana.
With Thiago Silva entering the twilight of his glorious career, a new and experienced centre-back will be needed. Trevoh Chalobah is still young and needs to play more to become a regular at the club.
Skriniar would make a perfect signing for the west London club. But they are not alone in their pursuit and will have to play their cards right, if they want the defender to ply his trade at their club.

It remains to be seen if the centre-back renews his contract or not. If he does not, a host of clubs would be knocking at his door in January to seal a transfer.
