Transfer News: Chelsea offered Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
According to the Independent, Chelsea have been offered to sign Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during this summer transfer window. Premier League rivals Manchester United have also been offered and are interested in him, although they are not currently actively working on this deal.
It is further revealed that the Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is open to working with the former Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund striker. The duo worked together in Germany for two years when Tuchel was managing Dortmund. So, finding the chemistry wouldn’t be an issue for both the player and the manager.
Aubameyang was an Arsenal player at the beginning of last season but moved to Barcelona in January. He made 17 league appearances for the Spanish side, scoring 11 goals and assisting one.
While those are impressive returns, the Catalan-based club have signed Robert Lewandowski this summer. That leads to the thinking that Aubameyang wouldn’t be their first-choice number nine in the coming season.
The 33-year-old former Guinea international has been one of Europe’s top marksmen for quite some time now. He did extremely well when playing under Tuchel for Dortmund. Returns of 39 goals and 12 assists in 49 appearances in all competitions in 2015/16 season is a prime example.
Aside from young Armando Broja, Chelsea do not have an out-and-out striker option in their squad. Having seen how much they struggled for goals last season, it would be ideal if they manage to sign Aubameyang before the deadline day. The striker having Premier League experience is an added advantage.
It remains to be seen if the Blues do make a move for him, however. The Gabon international still has a few years of football left in him.

He can be a wise short-term solution and the fact that he played for Arsenal before this would make every potential goal he scores in the London derby against the Gunners all the more sweeter.
