Transfer News: Chelsea have submitted a bid for Inter Milan starlet Cesare Casadei
According to Gianluca di Marzio via Sport Witness (h/t football.london), the Blues have submitted a bid for Inter Milan midfielder Cesare Casadei. The offer is said to be in the region of £6-7 million.
This trend of buying academy players from different clubs shows that Chelsea are not only building a team for the present, but also for the future. Casadei is not signed yet, of course, but it is always good to see the club ready to invest in the future.
The 19-year-old central midfielder is a phenomenal player for his age. The Italy Under-19 player was in fine form last season when he scored 16 goals and assisted 5 in 39 appearances in all competitions for Inter Milan Primavera.
A box-to-box midfielder he would make a fine addition to the Chelsea academy. The midfield duo of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are not getting any younger and the Blues seem to be looking for players to replace them.
Ross Barkley seems to be struggling for playing time while Saul Niguez is back at Atletico Madrid after a poor season-long loan spell.
Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are up-and-coming midfielders in the team and Casadei could give them a run for their money. Should the Italian join, he won’t be the first player to arrive in the academy this summer.
The likes of Zak Sturge, Omari Hutchinson and Tyler Dibling have all arrived or are expected to at Cobham. A very talented midfielder, it is unlikely that Thomas Tuchel will put him in the first team given his lack of experience in first-team football.
However, if he continues his fine goal-scoring form, it won’t be long before Tuchel calls him up to the senior squad. These are all scenarios we can start envisioning if the club manages to sign the midfielder, who is yet to make a senior appearance for I Nerazzurri.
