Joan Laporta denies offering Frenkie de Jong to Chelsea
Speaking in an interview as quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona president Joan Laporta denies offering talented Dutch midfielder, Frenkie de Jong, to Chelsea and insists that there are no problems with the Blues.
Barcelona and Chelsea have been at each other’s throats throughout this summer with both clubs being interested in the same player a number of times. Raphinha and Jules Kounde eventually chose Barcelona over the Blues much to our chagrin.
The Spanish club also ended up signing Andreas Christensen on a free transfer after he failed to renew terms with us ahead of this season. We were heavily linked with Ousmane Dembele but a move did not materialise for him either.
It had emerged in recent weeks that Barcelona had offered Chelsea the opportunity to sign Frenkie de Jong with the Spanish club looking for ways to ship out the 25-year-old midfielder ahead of the current campaign.
However, it seems like these are just rumours that are emerging in the media with Laporta firmly refuting claims of such a transfer
“We’ve never offered de Jong to Chelsea. No, no, no. We had a nice dinner with Boehly in Barcelona and we talked about football”.
Frenkie de Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 and has since then gone on to impress during his time with the Spanish club. The 25-year-old has been a mainstay in the midfield for Barcelona over this period.
Despite receiving mixed responses for his performances from the Barcelona faithful, the Dutchman has been pretty solid whenever he has played and it is because of the immense talent he possesses that sometimes he can go under the radar.
Chelsea will do amazingly well with another acquisition of a player like Frenkie de Jong. The Dutchman can be an amazing midfielder for the Blues and be a part of the midfield for many seasons to come.
He can also be a short-term fix for centre-back with the Dutchman capable of playing that role as well. He can fill in adequately and do a pretty good job as a part of a back two as he does in Barcelona and even more so if Tuchel plays a back three.

Right now, it seems like nothing is going on between Chelsea and Barcelona for Frenkie. However, it will come as no surprise if the Blues decide to pursue him before the transfer window ends.
