Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku to undergo Inter Milan medical on Wednesday
Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku’s return on loan to Inter Milan is as good as done, with only the last-mile stretch of the deal remaining, An official announcement from both clubs is imminent, pending a medical.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Romelu Lukaku is set to reach Milan tonight ahead of his medical, which is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
Lukaku scored 64 goals and provided 16 assists in 95 appearances during his two-season spell at San Siro, which prompted Chelsea to shell out a club-record fee for the striker they once let go.
However, that has turned out to be an unmitigated disaster and the end now is in sight. The Boehly-Clearlake administration was in no mood to waste any time, thus ensuring that a swift resolution is reached for a player who has no future at the club.
Comments made during an unsanctioned Sky Italia interview burnt the bridge between Lukaku and Thomas Tuchel, and the German has since seen no place for the striker going forward.
Chelsea and Inter have agreed upon an €8 million loan fee for the Belgian, with no option or obligation to buy. The Blues may find themselves trying to find another suitor for Lukaku next year, but that’s a problem for later.
Exciting times to be a Chelsea fan
Lukaku’s departure is a bitter pill to swallow, at least financially. However, given the circumstances leading up to his unceremonious exit, Chelsea fans will find it rather easy to get over him.
Chelsea have struck a deal for Leeds United star Raphinha, while talks with Manchester City for Raheem Sterling are progressing quite smoothly.
