Transfer News: Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele chooses Chelsea as his next club
According to TMW via Le10Sport, as relayed by Simon Phillips on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Ousmane Dembele has finally decided to choose Chelsea as his next club after leaving Barcelona in the summer transfer window. This update would be a massive boost for the English side as they could use his addition in their ranks.
Dembele is in line to become a free agent when his contract at Camp Nou expires at the end of this month. He has opted against renewing his current deal with Barca despite finding his feet under Xavi Hernandez. Now, it looks like he has reached a final decision on his future, with the Blues having expressed an interest in him.
The French international has decided to join the West Londoners ahead of the next season. That means he would be reuniting with his former boss Thomas Tuchel who has managed him during their time together at Borussia Dortmund. It remains to be seen if there is any weight to this news after all and whether any reliable sources would relay the same in the coming days.
Massive signing!
If this piece of information is believed to be true, then the 25-year-old’s arrival would undoubtedly be a massive boost to our squad. After all, our wingers have often failed to showcase their quality consistently, which has seen us become desperate for forward additions this summer.
Hakim Ziyech, for example, was arguably our best attacker at one point in the previous campaign, but he failed to sustain that form in the end. That raises serious questions about his future as he could be deemed dispensable for failing to meet the expectations in which he was signed from Ajax.
Christian Pulisic has also struggled with his form and has been linked with a move to Liverpool. His potential departure would also give us more reasons to reach an agreement with Dembele this summer. Furthermore, Callum Hudson-Odoi has struggled with his Achilles throughout the last season, while Timo Werner has not been consistent either.

Dembele, who can play on both wings without a drop in quality, would be a great signing in such a situation. And now it looks like we are in line to add him to our ranks for the upcoming season if this news happens to be true. At the same time, it would be best to wait for reliable sources to confirm the matter before forming an opinion on the subject.
Getting Dembele on a free transfer would mean that we can use the saved money to bolster the other areas in the team, like the defence, for example. The new owners are set to invest £200million into our budget for this summer, which would not have to be spent on signing a winger now that the Frenchman has made up his mind to join us.
