Transfer News: Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel confirms Andreas Christensen summer exit
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has finally confirmed that Andreas Christensen will be heading toward the exit in the summer transfer window. This revelation came after the controversy surrounding the defender for pulling out of the FA Cup final in a last-minute decision.
Christensen is out of contract at the end of this season, and he will leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer this summer. Fabrizio Romano even claims that he has already completed his move to Barcelona after this term, having already signed the deal a few weeks back at this point.
Now Tuchel has finally addressed the matter surrounding the Danish defender after his future has been clouded by uncertainty for quite a long time. The German boss has revealed that Christensen will surely leave the Blues for free in the summer transfer window.
“We’re losing him.”
Sour end to Christensen’s tenure
Now that the supporters have been officially provided with a confirmation regarding this matter, one could question the 26-year-old centre-back’s integrity and his decision to leave the squad just before the FA Cup final. Some fans have already expressed how Christensen could have been trying to keep him injury-free before his proposed move to Barca.
While there is no evidence to back that statement, such claims can always be made with Christensen’s teammates also being left puzzled by his decision to leave the team hotel. It was later claimed that he had felt ill just before the cup final whether that is true or not would be an unknown quantity.
We already know how Antonio Rudiger is set to join Real Madrid this summer as well. Cesar Azpilicueta could also depart after the current campaign adding to our defensive woes. Now with Christensen’s confirmation as well, the club must be prepared to meet their needs for the next term.
One could argue that the likes of Trevoh Chalobah, Malang Sarr and Levi Colwill could take over the mantle with Thiago Silva also being in the squad to guide them. Among the youngsters, only Chalobah has enjoyed a breakthrough season which means that it would not be wise to trust Sarr and Colwill to do the job moving forward.

Fortunately, we are linked with moves for Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Villarreal star Pau Torres, and both of them could be a massive addition to our ranks. It is quite frustrating that we are forced to rework our squad just when it seemed like we have caught up to Manchester City and Liverpool.
The fanbase would hope that this restructure would not result in them losing ground to the Reds and Man City beyond this summer. Whether Tuchel’s team can identify a suitable replacement for Christensen and bring him in or not remains to be seen.
