Transfer News: Crystal Palace Chairman expresses his desire to sign Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher permanently
According to Sky Sports News (h/t football.london), Crystal Palace Chairman Steve Parish spoke about signing Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher once again this summer. Gallagher has recently been awarded the Eagles’ player of the year by the supporters.
The 22-year-old loanee has been a significant player in the 2021/22 season, making 36 appearances and scoring eight goals in all competitions. This season, he was selected Player of the Month twice, earned Goal of the Month once, and was named Young Player of the Year at the London Football Awards in 2022.
He was elected Player of the Season by one-third of Palace fans, making him the 38th player to win the title since 1972. It’s a well-deserved honour for the Blues loanee, who has been an integral part of Patrick Vieira’s squad throughout the season.
In the interview, the Glaziers Chairman voiced his desire to have him in the team for next season. He insisted on signing the youngster and give him a permanent contract this summer.
Would Chelsea sell Conor Gallagher?
After a splendid season, it’s pretty obvious Chelsea will think twice about selling the midfielder. He has turned himself into a fan favourite at Selhurst Park and the Crystal Palace fans will want to see him return next season.
The Glaziers would do everything they could to persuade Gallagher to stay since they would want to please their supporters, and having a player like him in the team is always a bonus. There are, however, a few games left this season and the transfer market is yet to open.
Only time will tell if the Eagles act on Parish’s words and formalise any interest they may have in the Englishman.
Tuchel and the potential new owners would be aware of this and could have already made plans for including him in the next season’s squad. His creativity and versatility in the centre of the midfield for Vieira’s team show he can be an asset for Tuchel in the coming years, especially with the situation right now at Stamford Bridge.
Saul Niguez was signed only on a loan deal from Atletico Madrid. Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are not getting any younger and have looked tired at times this season, while the likes of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have failed to impress the German boss in order to be handed more starts.

But anything is possible in football. Chelsea, on the other hand, would be wise to put him through the paces in pre-season and try to integrate him into our plans to create a solid team that can compete with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
