New owners to ensure significant transfer funds are made available for Chelsea this summer

Chelsea make their move for former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards.

New Chelsea owners to invest significantly in the team’s development this summer

According to the Daily Mail, the new Chelsea owners will make significant investments for the team’s development during their first transfer window in charge. The majority of these funds would be utilised to improve the defence.

According to an official statement last Saturday on the club’s website, the club will be taken over by a group led by Todd Boehly. According to the announcement, the club’s shares would be purchased for £2.5 billion, with the proceeds going to charity and £1.75 billion going to the club’s “benefit.”

The Government and Premier League are expected to approve Boehly’s takeover of Stamford Bridge before the end of the month, at which point the new owners — which include banking firm Clearlake Capital and Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss — would have the opportunity to start recruiting players right away.

What will Chelsea do with the funds?

Chelsea’s defence has been rather porous in recent weeks. The Blues will also need to account for a summer exodus with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen set to move on. Todd Boehly himself witnessed the Blues’ poor defensive performance in the recent game against Wolves at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s defence was vulnerable to quick counter-attacks and eventually gave up a two-goal lead, denying us three points. It was clear that the club cannot afford to leave the issue unaddressed in the off-season.

More Chelsea news

Marcos Alonso is open to a move away from Stamford Bridge while Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta are not getting any younger. A total revamp might be needed in the coming months.

Apart from recruiting new players, we also need to ensure that those who want to stay get a better deal and have their futures secured. Boehly will also focus on extending the contracts of right-back Reece James and midfielder Mason Mount. Just how much money will be made available to Thomas Tuchel to revamp the squad remains to be seen.
