Transfer News: Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger set to undergo medical ahead of Real Madrid move
According to Spanish publication AS (h/t The Sun), Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger is set to undergo medical ahead of his transfer to Real Madrid at the end of this season. He has already been confirmed to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.
Rudiger is contracted with the Blues only until this summer. However, he will not sign an extension with the club- something which has been confirmed by Thomas Tuchel himself.
The Madrid-based giants are preparing to send doctors to London to carry out a medical in the coming days. They are confident that the German will pass the tests since he has a strong fitness record. Even if the transfer is green-lighted after the procedure, it will only be announced after this term.
Damning loss!
The 29-year-old has been exceptional for us under Tuchel. The centre-back has led us to European glory in this short period, indicating the level of quality he has displayed. As such, the prospect of losing him could derail the squad due to his importance to the team.
As a strong leader, the Premier League ace has showcased the qualities that make him one of the best, if not the best, central defenders in the PL right now. That makes the current situation tough to accept since not only were we weakened in our intent to keep him due to the Government-imposed sanctions, but also face the prospect of losing one of our best players for absolutely nothing.
Now, it seems that his move to the Spanish capital is done and dusted, with legalities being the only things left to finalise the transfer. After all, it is stated that a four-year contract has already been agreed upon between the two parties, with the Blues defender reducing his wage demands to help the cause.
The West London side would now be smart to prioritize finding a suitable replacement for the ex-AS Roma man. Once the limitations are lifted, we can ramp up the efforts to target the suitable additions for next season. His potential exit is yet to be officially confirmed by both the clubs, although Blues fans would be fearing the worst.
Rudiger’s ability to hold the backline and keep it in check would certainly be missed. Not only has he been readily available for selection even during injury and Covid crisis this season, but the aerial presence he offers on both ends of the pitch has also helped the club on numerous occasions.

That being said, fans would remain optimistic that Tuchel’s side would not let this setback define their upcoming season. The club is yet to announce who its new owners will be, but if and when that is done, the club can then focus on how to address Rudiger’s potential departure in the coming months.
