Gary Cahill is willing to stay at Chelsea and fight for a place in Maurizio Sarri’s team, as per the Telegraph.
Cahill, who currently earns wages in the region of £85,000-a-week, had captained our side last season. However, he has not been in any of the three matchday squads so far.
The report claims that Cahill had attracted interest from Turkey but is not keen on moving to the country. A few Premier League clubs were also interested in the former Bolton man but the report adds that the 32-year-old will try to break into the side and decide on his future in the January window.
The report further adds that Cahill could lose his captaincy. Cesar Azpilicueta captained the side in the 2-1 win over Newcastle United and the report adds that Eden Hazard is another option to don the armband.
Sarri was quoted by the Telegraph as saying that it is difficult for defenders to learn his style of play.
“It’s easier for an offensive player. For a defender it’s more difficult. So I think that, at this moment, he needs to have a lot more defensive training with us.”
The manager was asked if he had spoken to Cahill regarding this situation, to which he replied:
“Yes, but I told him that he needs to be patient now. And that he is very important for us.”

Cahill led us to the FA Cup last season and has won a number of titles with the Blues. Chelsea played with Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz as the central defenders in the last game and it will be interesting to see if Sarri is willing to provide Cahill with a chance in the coming weeks.
