Transfer News: Giorgio Chiellini will terminate Juventus contract to make way for Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger

According to Marcello Chirico of 7Gold Sport on Twitter (h/t The Sun), Giorgio Chiellini is ready to terminate his contract at Juventus to make way for a potential move to sign Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger. That would be a big step taken by the legendary defender given his nearly 18-year-long spell with the club’s senior team.

Rudiger has less than six months left on his current deal, which has seen him attract attention from Juve. They want to prise him away to Italy to lead their defence moving forward. Initially, it was thought that Chiellini would stay for one more term to help the Blues ace get accustomed to the new surroundings.

That stance seems to have changed as Chiellini would be let go after this season. His contract would be terminated as both parties have reached an agreement over the decision. Rudiger is believed to be the Italian side’s favourite to replace their club legend, and they are pressuring to facilitate a move.

Chelsea must renew Rudiger!

Rudiger is regarded within our fanbase as one of the league’s best centre-back options at this moment. He has been a massive influence in our rejuvenated backline under Thomas Tuchel. Moreover, his impact can also be felt in other areas as he is known to bomb forward and engage in the attack as well.

We would be wise to avoid losing the German’s services if there are plans to build on the recent success. Losing a key player like him will do us no good if there are such ambitions. Hence, fans would perhaps want the Blues to fight off the interest from Massimiliano Allegri’s side at all costs.

The 29-year-old currently earns a meagre £100k-per-week wage package for his standards and has not agreed to pen a new deal. Supposedly, he had asked for £225k-per-week before the West London side were hit by the UK Government’s sanctions. That seems to be a fair raise considering how Timo Werner earns around £270,000-a-week in remuneration.

Unfortunately, we cannot do anything due to the current sanction, so the club officials must lift the restrictions by putting an end to this ownership uncertainty. Once that is done, it wouldn’t be unwise for the club to agree to pay Rudiger’s demands as it is not overly exorbitant looking at his contributions to the team.

Replacing a stellar, PL-proven defender like Rudiger would probably not be cheap for the Blues as well. Keeping him, in that sense, would make sense given our current condition. Letting him leave for free also means we miss out on getting any fee for a defender that is perhaps one of the best in the business right now.

More Chelsea News

Only time will tell how this situation regarding Rudiger’s future prospects will turn out to be as we near the summer transfer window. With Real Madrid and Bayern Munich also being in the fray, let’s hope that we can tie him down on a new contract to end the current uncertainty.

Of course, fans would feel that if he had to renew and stay, he would have done so by now. But we can imagine that Chelsea may not have made things easy too, allegedly unwilling to meet his recent wage demands. Nevertheless, stranger things have happened in football and we hope he has a change of heart and stays at the Bridge beyond this summer.
