Arsenal confident of tying down Khayon Edwards to a new contract amid Chelsea interest
According to Football London (h/t The Express), Arsenal are confident about reaching an agreement over the contract extension of Khayon Edwards amidst interest from Chelsea for a potential transfer. He is one of the highly-rated talents in North Londoner’s academy, which has made him an attractive prospect for any team.
Edwards is currently contracted with the Gunners on a scholarship deal which will expire at the end of this season. They are currently in negotiations over a renewal, and it is touted that an extension is soon to be agreed upon. As such, Mikel Arteta’s side are growing more optimistic about reaching a common ground at this point.
RB Leipzig, Hertha Berlin and Feyenoord all join the Blues as they look to prise away the 18-year-old. Initially, there were worries that he would leave The Emirates this summer, but that seems to be a case of the past. But following this latest update, he seems likely to stay at his current club past this term.
Missed opportunity?
The Englishman has been in hot form for his youth team this season, having netted 17 goals and assisted six times from 22 games across all competitions. It is no wonder why he is highly sought after by some of the famed clubs who are known for focusing on developing young talents.
We are also in the same boat, as Cobham have played a key role in our recent success under Thomas Tuchel. Not to mention, we also have several stars coming up from the academy who are next in line to become future superstars. Hence, signing the Gunners ace would have helped to add more talented prospects to our academy.
In fact, the English attacker was also targeted by several other Premier League clubs such as Newcastle United, Southampton and Brighton & Hove Albion. That shows how highly he is valued, which is the reason why Arteta’s side had previously rejected several offers for the teenager.
It seems that we are facing a losing battle at this point, so it is advisable if we turn our attention elsewhere. At the same time, Thomas Tuchel’s side could decide to push for a final offensive if they are desperate to sign Edwards. That is certainly understandable as he is one of the best prospects alongside Folarin Balogun in Arsenal’s academy.

However, the North London side have been focusing on their talents under Arteta, which means that we would probably find it difficult to prise Edwards away this summer. Only time will tell if there will be any breakdown in contract talks which could give us an opening to make a case for ourselves.
Until then, let’s keep a close eye on the situation to have the opportunity to make the best decision depending on the circumstances.
