Marina Granovskaia could leave Chelsea after Roman Abramovich sale

According to The Guardian, Club director Marina Granovskaia could leave Chelsea following the change of ownership from the hands of Roman Abramovich. The club chief recently confirmed that he would be selling the club amidst the risk of sanctions from the Government due to his ties with the Russian regime.

Abramovich has released a statement confirming his desire to sell the Blues on the club’s official website. He also added that the club would not have to repay £1.5billion to him, having written off the loans at his cost. Previously, he had tried to transfer the care and stewardship of the club to the trustees, which could not be completed.

The interested parties are trying to finalise a sale as quick as possible as they would run into obstacles once the UK Government sanctions Abramovich. Moreover, Granovskaia could follow suit alongside him as she is unlikely to stay under the new owners after the change. She would also be joined by the club chairman, Bruce Buck, which pushes Thomas Tuchel’s side towards further uncertainty.

More concerns!

Granovskaia has been a crucial part of the club’s running since she joined the club’s board back in 2013. She has earned a name for herself for her impressive transfer business, making her one of the best directors in English football. She also won the award for the Best Club Director in European football at the Golden Boy awards last year.

A change of ownership in and of itself is very concerning, to say the least, as the club’s direction would depend on the new owners. Now that we are set to lose Buck and Granovskaia, we could potentially find it difficult to replace the void of experience and knowledge left by their exit.

A best-case scenario would be if the duo would stay with us under the new ownership moving forward. But since that is unlikely to happen, we would at least hope that the two club officials would be here until the new chiefs can be integrated into the daily running of the club.

Moreover, we would also need replacements for them so let’s hope that the new owners can reach an agreement where they would stay with us until a suitable alternative is found. It remains to be seen how this situation would pan out in the coming days as the process to sell the club is already underway.

These are uncertain times to be a Chelsea fan. After the highs we witnessed recently under Tuchel, and in the past two decades under Abramovich, no one really knows what awaits this club now.

We have made ourselves into one of Europe’s elite clubs now, however, and that could help us get owners that match our status, who know what is required to keep this machine running and competing for trophies on the regular.
