Chelsea considering a move for former Barcelona director Ramon Planes
According to Spanish outlet Sport, via SportWitness (h/t football.london), Chelsea are eyeing up a move to recruit former Barcelona director Ramon Planes into the club hierarchy. Blues owner Roman Abramovich is said to be a huge fan of the club director.
Abramovich was recently seen celebrating Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup triumph, as the Blues dug deep in extra time to beat Palmeiras by two goals to one in the final. With this, the club have completed the task of winning all available trophies to them at the club football level.
The Russian is said to now have identified Planes as someone who can improve Chelsea, given all the fine work he had done during his time at Barcelona. Planes left his Camp Nou role in 2021.
If Abramovich is keen to add the former Barcelona man to the club’s ranks, then he will need to act quickly. It is said that the 54-year-old has a number of offers on the table. There is currently no information about which rival clubs are in the fray against us.
Club hierarchy shake-up
Chelsea have won the Champions League, Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup in the span of a year. The club is ambitious and will aim for more trophies not just in the coming months, but also in the coming years. It is imperative that we have the right people in charge both on and off the field to realize our ambitions.
This season still presents the Blues with an opportunity to win the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and retain the Champions League. Abramovich will hope that head coach Thomas Tuchel manages to lead his team to all these titles, in an effort to convince Planes to join a side still greedy for glory.
A big reason for Chelsea’s success in the past year has been chief director of football Marina Granovskaia, who handles the roles of wrapping up transfer deals and contract negotiations. However, Abramovich would want more able administrators on board to take his club to the next level and become a constant force to be reckoned with.
Granovskaia has done a fabulous job as well, getting some top-quality players into the club and bolstering Tuchel’s squad with exciting talent that the German can rely on to do a solid job on the pitch when called upon.

It is also said that the former Barca man is the person behind discovering some great talent at his old club, identifying current stars such as Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Abde Ezzalzouli, and Pedri. Interestingly, the Golden Boy award last year was won by Pedri for his performances for the La Liga giants.
Abramovich will hope that his efforts in roping in Planes proves successful, as he eyes a shake-up within the club hierarchy to improve things further. The club seems to be a well-oiled machine, and having Planes’ talents on board is crucial to keep things running efficiently.
