Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel wants Blues loanee Conor Gallagher to be part of first team squad next season
Speaking to the Si & Dan Talk Chelsea Podcast via football.london, the Guardian’s Chelsea reporter Jacob Steinburg revealed that Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is a fan of Blues loanee Conor Gallagher, and wants the player to join the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge next season.
Gallagher has spent his entire youth career with Chelsea, climbing through the ranks and impressing academy coaches with his abilities on the field. However, the player has not yet featured for the senior team, with the club sending him out on loan multiple times in the past.
However, this is likely to change soon, as Steinburg has said that Gallagher will return to the club next season, with Tuchel planning to include the midfielder in his plans for the 2022/23 season. Given the midfielder’s performances for Crystal Palace, it is hardly a surprise.
The Englishman has once again found himself playing for another team this season, currently plying his trade with London club Crystal Palace till the end of the campaign. However, it has proven to be a breakout season for the star, racking up several goals and becoming a mainstay for the Eagles.
Breakout season for Gallagher
The Chelsea player’s latest loan deal seems to have changed his life overnight, with Gallagher being recognized as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young talents. His performances for Crystal Palace have also earned him an England cap, having been called up to the national side last year.
Gallagher’s development and recent rise to stardom seems to have impressed Tuchel, who is now set to make the England international a part of his first-team next season when the player returns from his loan spell with the Eagles in the summer.
Having idolized Chelsea legend Frank Lampard as a youngster, Gallagher seems to have copied the former player’s traits into his own game. The 21-year-old is capable of playing in both deeper and forward positions in midfield, and his goalscoring touch has been a highlight of his season so far with Crystal Palace.
Chelsea’s midfield meanwhile, has laboured to victory at times and struggled to dictate the tempo of the games. A horrible run of form towards the end of the previous year showcased just this, with players not taking enough responsibility in the middle of the pitch.

Gallagher’s youth guarantees energy, and the chance to play for his boyhood club is sure to inspire the Englishman to take his level a step higher as he takes to the field wearing a Chelsea kit. His presence in our midfield adds a different dynamic, and Tuchel seems to have identified this, having said to really like the player.
Next season could see our senior squad be stacked with Cobham graduates, and Gallagher could be one of them, eager to make his mark at Stamford Bridge and convince Tuchel that he deserves to play for the club. Nothing else could aptly reward the midfielder for his breakout season this year at Crystal Palace.
