Transfer News: Chelsea are in talks with Stuttgart to sign left-back Borna Sosa
According to Sky Germany (h/t The Sun), Chelsea have opened negotiations with Bundesliga side Vfb Stuttgart regarding the potential transfer for Borna Sosa.
Borna Sosa has been impressive with his highly productive performances at left-back this campaign. The Croatian star’s team is currently battling in the relegation zone. But, with two goals and three assists in 18 appearances, the Zagreb born star is having quite a contrasting season.
At only 24 years of age, many top tier teams would be happy to bet on the player’s qualities. One team that is in desperate need of reinforcements in the position is Chelsea.
Aston Villa tried signing Sosa before the arrival of Lucas Digne. European champions Chelsea have shown an interest in the Croatian left-back of late. The Blues’ first-choice left-back Ben Chilwell has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. With only Marcos Alonso as the recognized star for the position, Thomas Tuchel is looking for reinforcements.
The Blues targeted Lucas Digne first, but the deal never materialized. After failing to pursue the former Everton defender, our board decided to recall Emerson Palmieri from his loan spell at Olympique Lyon. However, the French side are firm on keeping the Italian star until the summer and have rejected every approach from the Blues board.
Losing out on the two viable options for the wing-back role, Chelsea are planning to strike a deal with Stuttgart to transfer Sosa. It is believed that our board have started negotiations with the German team for the transfer. With just over a week to go before the January window shuts, the Blues are facing a race against time to get the deal over the line.
Stuttgart currently values the Croatian star at £25million – a number that Chelsea are finding difficult to meet. Whether we will give in and do what it takes to land him remains to be seen.

With just over one week left at the end of the current transfer window, our team has to sign a quality alternative, or else Tuchel would have to be overly dependent on Alonso’s service, which certainly has risks attached to it.
Sosa’s ability to play in every position on the left flank makes him an exciting transfer target. By signing him, our manager would get a massive boost for the second half of the season. Spending the bucks at this point doesn’t seem like a luxury but a necessity.
