Chelsea’s hopes of making it to the Champions League next season were dealt a blow after a 1-1 draw at home against Huddersfield Town. By earning a point, the away side ensured they stayed in the Premier League and David Wagner’s men celebrated wildly after the match ended.
However, we should have been the ones celebrating, as the team wasted several opportunities to score and get all three points.
For all our domination of possession, it was Laurent Depoitre who opened the scoring in the 50th minute before Marcos Alonso got the equaliser as a clearance came off his face.
Try as we might, we could not beat Jonas Lossl in goal and had to settle for a point. We now have to beat Newcastle away from home and hope that Liverpool lose to Brighton at Anfield if are to have any hopes of playing Champions League football next season.
It was a disappointing end to the season at Stamford Bridge and the fans certainly shared their opinion on Twitter, some of which was centred around Antonio Conte’s decision not to start Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud.
Surrendered the Spurs record. Sabotaged our top 4 chances with team selection. Disgraced and humiliated fans and players at City away. Three goals in five home games against other top 6 sides. Constant negative tactics. Endless moaning. Get gone and good riddance, Antonio.

If we had won today Tottenham would have felt too much pressure and bottled it. Wrong team too many changes and gutting we couldn’t take it to the last game of the season! #CFC @cfc_fantv ⚽️🔵

Conte: “I’m realistic & I think you finish the season in the position you deserve. We dropped many points” #cfc

We can’t beat Huddersfield at home but we parade the youth squad around at half time who won the quadruple. Surely something’s wrong there #CFC

“He was resting Hazard and Giroud for Sunday”
Didn’t the conman not realise that if we didn’t absolutely win today then Sunday would be rendered useless. It’s called sabotage.

No matter how much you may back Conte as long as you still want him to remain here next season then you simply do not love this club.

That starting eleven should be more than good enough to beat Huddersfield at home given the money spent on it but not picking your best player and most in-form centre forward is sabotage. A disgrace no matter what spin you put on it.

I seriously can’t believe Conte didn’t start Hazard tonight. Too much risk to take.
But if you need Hazard to beat Huddersfield then this team seriously has problems.
Awful. 😤😤😤
Chelsea needs a huge summer transfer.#CFC— Chelsea Edits (@chelsea_edit) May 9, 2018
To make it worse City are breaking our records left right and centre 😤 #CFC

In the most important of all Chelsea’s remaining games, Antonio Conte decided not to start Chelsea’s best player all season and their best striker since January. This idiot has to leave. #CFC
