Transfer News: Chelsea set to face competition from Manchester United for Jules Kounde
According to The Sun, Manchester United have shown interest in signing Chelsea target Jules Kounde.
Jules Kounde has been one of the best young defenders in La Liga. The French defender has already made 21 appearances for Sevilla this season. His defensive solidity, awareness and consistency have made him a top young prospect in Europe. The France international has appeared on the radar of some quality teams in recent times.
Chelsea and Manchester United were both interested in signing Kounde in the summer. But the Premier League giants couldn’t reach an agreement over a possible deal with Sevilla.
Thomas Tuchel’s team has recently rejuvenated their interest in the defender. But, the high valuation of Los Nervionenses has been preventing them from making a move. Thus, it seems like playing the waiting game could go on to help the Blues.
But it is believed that Red Devils have also rejuvenated their interest and are eyeing to lure the talented youngster to bolster their defensive line.
Chelsea are on the verge of a defensive catastrophe. Four of our prominent defenders are out of contact in the summer, and Marina Granovskaia’s board hasn’t been able to bind any of the defenders to a renewal deal until now.
Blues central defender Antonio Rudiger, who has attracted interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain, seems more in than out. At the same time, club captain Cesar Azpilicueta’s future is up in the air as well.
Our defence hasn’t looked very solid in recent times either. Even if we do manage to tie down Thiago Silva and Azpi to new contracts, it’s not like they can offer us a lot of years down the line.

Amid such a situation, defensive reinforcements have become a necessity for the Blues. Kounde has proved that he is ready for top-level action. The Sevilla starlet also has considerable top-flight experience. He could become a long term prospect for Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel doesn’t have a lot of youthful legs in defence.
We let two young defenders in Marc Guehi and Fikayo Tomori leave in the summer. While it seemed like a questionable decision then, maybe there was a plan to it all along.
