AC Milan join Inter Milan in the race to sign Malang Sarr
According to Tuttosport via Sport Witness (h/t Mirror), AC Milan are keen on signing Chelsea centre-back Malang Sarr amid lack of game time.
Malang Sarr’s Chelsea career hasn’t been much promising. The French player joined the Blues from OGC Nice in 2020. However, he failed to impress the then manager Frank Lampard and was loaned out to Porto. His loan move has seemingly not convinced Thomas Tuchel, and he has been largely neglected after returning.
It is believed that Inter Milan are ready to put the 22-year-old player out of misery by signing him in a loan move with an option to buy. However, it seems AC Milan have joind the race, and Sarr would have the choice to decide which Milan giant he prefers.
Thomas Tuchel currently holds one of the best centre back pairings in the Premier League. The Antonio Rüdiger – Andreas Christensen duo has conceded the lowest number of goals this season. With the Danish player moving into the peak years of his career and the German becoming a world-class defender, it’s improbable that the German manager would look beyond them when they are fit to start.
On the other hand, the burst of Cobham graduate Trevoh Chalobah onto the scene has made the chances pretty slim for Sarr. The Blues recently gave a new contract to Chalobah, which shows that they are betting on the long-term future of their academy graduate.
However, there are some difficulties regarding the contract situation of Chelsea’s central defenders. Despite closing on the end of their contract term, Rüdiger and Christensen are yet to pen down renewal deals. Marina Granovskaia’s board would undoubtedly want to hold onto thor star defenders. But if it doesn’t result in a happy ending, the West Londoners could find themselves in hot water.

Thus, before sanctioning a deal for Sarr to join a Serie A club, the board should analyse their position and find viable replacements in the coming window. Fikayo Tomori was similarly sold this summer and has fared well in Italy- a move we could possibly live to regret in the future.
Apart from Tomori, we also let Olivier Giroud join the Italian giants this summer. Although the French veteran was perhaps towards the end of his professional career and his move doesn’t sting as much with Romelu Lukaku’s arrival.
