Transfer News: Bayern Munich join Chelsea in the race to sign Juventus star Federico Chiesa

According to transfer news from journalist Nicolo Schira (h/t ESPN), Chelsea and Bayern Munich are tussling amongst themselves to land the signature of Juventus ace Federico Chiesa.

The Blues possess a wide array of attacking talent in their squad but could be hungry for more. They are interested in signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus, who has impressed severely in Turin.

Since joining them on a two-year loan move last summer, the Italian has succeeded in becoming one of the first names on the team sheet. The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer has also made him the main man in attack at the club.

His potential came to the fore at the UEFA European Championship this year, as he helped Italy win the competiton. Several clubs were interested in him this summer but the Italian club were determined to hold on to him as they also rejected a £100million bid for the player.

Chelsea are hoping to sign him now but shall face competition from 6-time UCL winners Bayern Munich. The Bavarians are relentless in the Bundesliga but could use some future-proofing in their attack due to the ageing bodies of Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski.

Not the worst race to lose

The West London club may be determined to sign him, but it could cause a disruption in the squad. The talent in the attacking ranks is too high as it is, and signing Chiesa could mean reduction in gametime for a couple of stars.

Although moving out the deadweight could be good for us, most members of this setup are younger than 25. They are only going to get better, and selling even one of them could be a moment to regret.

Chelsea have previously suffered for failing to nurture the potential of Kevin de Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, and Romelu Lukaku. They have since re-signed the latter, but the former duo has been a thorn in the back, leading our rivals to major titles in recent seasons.

Thus, signing the 24-year-old Juventus star might be a hindrance to the emergence of the youth at the club rather than just being a high-profile signing that will garner plaudits from the fans. A deal should not be ignored, but there is no need to bend over backwards to sign him.

Distributing playing time amongst the likes of Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi seems more sensible. The young duo hasn’t had the best of times under Tuchel as he favours wing-backs to do most of his work in attack down the flanks, but instead of splashing the big bucks on a new signing, it could be beneficial if we look inwards for any potential solutions we may need down the flanks.
