Chelsea star reveals how he made Hull City’s David Meyler miss his penalty in FA Cup clash

Willian

Willian has revealed what he told David Meyler which caused the Irishman to miss a penalty kick against us during Friday’s FA Cup clash.

We won the game comfortably after outplaying the Tigers and went into half-time with a 4-0 lead. However, soon after the whistle sounded for the second-half, Hull had a chance to claim a consolation when Cesc Fabregas was penalised for having brought down Harry Wilson down in the box.

Willian who scored twice during the game also had a hand to play in Meyler missing the resultant spot-kick as goalkeeper Willy Caballero stood firm.

Through some master class from Willian, we kept a clean-sheet. It would not have made a difference if Meyler had scored but the whole incident which caused him to miss it is memorable.

“I said to him: ‘you’re going to miss’,” Willian was quoted by Metro.

“I said: ‘don’t shoot in the middle because Willy won’t move, he stays,’ and then when he missed I said ‘I told you’.”

The win would have certainly also given us much-needed confidence and momentum going into our Champions League tie against Barcelona.

“I think in football always you have to improve and we did that and in these two weeks we worked hard, tried to improve ourselves,” Willian said.

“It’s important to get back to winning and now we have the big game on Tuesday.”

Antonio Conte also echoed the feelings expressed by Willian and said:

“I think that we lost two bad games, especially the game against Watford. But we played that game at end of busy period and we paid a lot.”

“Now we have the right confidence but now the next two weeks we must play massive games and we must be strong to face in the right way against Barcelona, Manchester United, City then Palace and Barcelona.”

With the Barcelona clash coming up, the 4-0 win against Hull would have given the boys some lift. It is important we go far in the Champions League this season. We are capable of going all the way and let’s see how the team turns up against Barcelona.
