Christian Pulisic tips Chelsea teammate Reece James to end the season as the Blues’ top scorer
Speaking in an interview to Standard Sport, Christian Pulisic has backed Chelsea wing-back Reece James to end this season as the team’s top scorer. James was named the Man of the Match for his performance against Juventus in the Champions League earlier this week.
The Blues were dominant on the night as they ran riot, putting four past the Italian giants. Pulisic started the match as a false-nine, a different position than he usually plays. He was eventually was substituted for Timo Werner in the second half.
James meanwhile, was unstoppable as he played a part in three of the four goals his side scored at Stamford Bridge on the night. That took his tally for the season to five goals and assists each from 14 appearances across all competitions. He is incredibly the team’s top goalscorer this season.
Pulisic himself an attacker admits being impressed by his teammate’s output. He believes the young full-back’s ability will see him soar to greater heights in the future.
“Absolutely we’re all impressed. What he can do on the field is pretty special. He’s got so much ability, so many different ways to help the team. The sky is the limit for him.”
He also praised James’ ability to help his team in multiple ways. Curiously enough, his biggest statement of the night was backing the youngster to end the season as the club’s top scorer. It certainly won’t come as a surprise, given the attacking freedom afforded to him in Thomas Tuchel’s system.
“Honestly, the way he is playing right now and the way he strikes the ball, I wouldn’t be surprised [if he stayed top scorer]. That’s what’s great about our system – it allows him to attack a lot.”
Based on his current form, James is arguably the best in the world at what he does. It is saying something given the performances Trent Alexander-Arnold has put in for Liverpool.

While it is good to see the 21-year-old strike it rich, we would hope that the attackers also start to chip in with some goals to compliment him. Asking your defender and depending on him for goals is unsustainable in the long run and could come back to bite us in the future.
James has the makings of a generational talent and has his best years ahead of him. Still just 21, he has a long way to go in his career. The future looks very promising indeed for the Chelsea ace.
