Transfer News: Serie A giants eyeing experienced Chelsea defensive ace

Emerson Palmieri could replace Marcos Alonso who is keen to leave Chelsea this summer.

Transfer News: Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso eyed by Inter Milan

According to transfer news from Italian outlet Tutto Mercato via Absolute Chelsea (h/t football.london), Inter Milan are preparing a move to land Chelsea star, Marcos Alonso.

The Spaniard has had a mixed time since his move from Fiorentina in 2016. The defender found favour under Antonio Conte but dropped below Ben Chilwell once Frank Lampard signed the Englishman from Leicester City.

But under Thomas Tuchel, Alonso saw more minutes once again as he has been deployed as an attacking left wing-back in the German’s set-up. However, his competition for starts with Chilwell is very much still there.

And the report adds that the Serie A champions are now considering a move to bring in the 30-year-old to Milan. Inter were believed to have turned down a player plus cash offer for Romelu Lukaku in the summer, which included Alonso.

Alonso to Inter?

But I Nerazzurri seem to have changed their mind. There is no clear indication of Chelsea’s stance on Alonso, but if Tuchel’s starting XIs are to go by, Alonso is pretty much a pinned on starter for the club.

He has played in both their UEFA Champions League games until now, played the full two hours in Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup win vs Villarreal, and has started in 6 out of 7 Premier League games so far this season.

There is, of course, Chilwell to man the flanks but without Alonso, Chelsea might be a little short-handed in that area of the pitch. With Emerson Palmieri also sealing an exit in the summer, keeping Alonso would make sense for the club.

It remains to be seen if Chelsa would be willing to sell Alonso, especially if any approach is made in January considering the club’s target of landing multiple trophies at the end of the season.
