Peter Crouch criticizes Chelsea star Kai Havertz for Juventus display
Speaking to BT Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Peter Crouch was quite critical of Chelsea star Kai Havertz for his performance against Juventus. The former England forward admitted that Havertz had talent but was often lazy during games. He went on to compare him to Arsenal icon Mesut Ozil as well.
It was not to be Chelsea’s night as Juventus ran out narrow winners through a Federico Chiesa goal. A wasteful performance from Chelsea meant that never really looked close to taking the lead or equalising. That has kept the group open with Zenit and Chelsea on equal points. A number of players were off-colour as Chelsea succumbed to their second loss of the season.
Kai Havertz was making his return to the side after only a substitute appearance against Manchester City. However, he failed to provide anything of note as his passing looked off. He got a golden chance to equalise in injury time but failed to do so. It was one of those off days for the 22-year-old and was nowhere close to his usual best.
Peter Crouch provided an assessment of the same. He felt that despite Havertz’s qualities, he was lazy at times. The former England striker also compared Havertz to Mesut Ozil who has often shown similar traits.
‘I thought Ziyech and Havertz were very disappointing. I think Havertz reminds me of Ozil, he does things where it comes easy to him and he looks technically brilliant but he can also look lazy and laboured at times and he can frustrate you and I thought tonight they were frustrating.’

The fact that Havertz is again enduring the problems after last season, should be a bit of a worry. His talent has never been in question but not often he is seen showing initiative and effort. These kinds of displays will only raise scrutiny on him and the sooner he gets back to form, the better.
