“Wasn’t easy”- 18-year-old PL starlet opens up about Chelsea exit this summer

Chelsea make an approach to re-sign Southampton star Tino Livramento.

Tino Livramento opens up about his departure from Chelsea to Southampton this summer

According to an interview done with the FA (h/t football.london), Tino Livramento has talked about his exit from Chelsea this summer after spending nearly a decade at the club.

The 2021 Chelsea Academy Player of the Year joined the club as a seven-year-old and progressed through the ranks. He was incredible in his first year as a scholar, courtesy of which the Stamford Bridge outfit were trying to convince the player to sign a new deal with the club during his second year as a scholar.

However, Livramento was aware that he only has a year left on his current deal at the West London club, and he did not want to continue his development at the club any further. This makes sense given that the Blues’ full-back options are already filled, especially on the right as Reece James could be a long-term option for the club in that position.

Thus, the 18-year-old joined Southampton this summer in a £5million deal, and the player has already featured under Ralph Hasenhuttl. The youngster has now opened about his exit during an interview with the FA (h/t football.london), saying:

“Every single year, I have a routine of setting goals, and there is only so much you can do at youth level. Me and my dad sat down in May, and we spoke and thought the next step would be for me to push into a Premier League team, and we felt the better route for me was to leave Chelsea.

“It wasn’t easy obviously as I have been a fan for as long as I can remember and been a player there since I was seven.”

His move to Southampton might not be the end of his relationship with the Blues, as they were clever enough to include a buy-back option. Thus, if things go to plan, the Cobham academy product might have a future at Stamford Bridge.
