Transfer News: Ilaix Moriba turns down Chelsea move

According to transfer news from Mirror, Ilaix Moriba has turned down the chance to join Chelsea. As per a report by Sport (h/t Mirror), the wantaway Barcelona starlet is keen on a move RB Leipzig and has rejected the chance to sign for Tottenham Hotspur as well.

Barcelona are in some pickle with Moriba. He was one of the breakout stars last season and made quite an impression during those appearances. However, the contract dispute that is going on has left a sour taste in Barcelona’s mouth. They have tried hard to convince the player to put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

Those efforts have proved futile and they are no longer willing to keep patience regarding this and looking to cash in on him rather than drag it out. Add to that, Barca’s financial problems and they are looking to cash in on several players such as Moriba, Samuel Umtiti, Miralem Pjanic, etc. Chelsea and Spurs were among the interested parties in Moriba.

However, both the London clubs will be greeted with disappointing news as Moriba is keen on a switch to RB Leipzig. Spurs showed some initiative as well but his agents are hoping to seal a move to the Bundesliga. Moriba has less than 12 months left on his current deal, making him an attractive prospect.

Chelsea cannot do much here as the player does not want a move to the Blues. Leipzig is often the destination for some young players to head to for development and this could be the same case. The argument might be there that Chelsea did not need Moriba but he would have been a good addition for the future.
