Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen set to be offered new contracts by Chelsea

According to The Telegraph (h/t Football.london), Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen could be offered new contracts by Chelsea. The two defensive stars are now in the final year of their deals and it is imperative that they are tied up to new ones.

Andreas Christensen emerged as one of the brightest young talents under Antonio Conte. The Dane had impressed in his loan spells and was handed a shot in the side. A calm presence at the back, he made a good impression and has since featured on a fairly regular basis even with more experienced options around.

Antonio Rudiger has been one of the leaders in defence under Thomas Tuchel. While he did not enjoy much game time under Frank Lampard, under Tuchel he has blossomed. Rudiger has been a powerhouse of a defender, keeping things tidy at the back by doing the dirty work.

It was this duo that was there through the second half of last season, keeping Chelsea’s back secure. However, their current deals are nearing their end and any more delay could result in clubs trying to sign them for free in January 2022. Hence, Chelsea have taken the decision to offer them new contracts and secure their futures.

It is vital that Chelsea do so. These two have become important pieces of the side under Tuchel and it would be a real shame if even one of them were to leave. Whatever needs to be done should be done to get them tied up to new deals.
