Tiemoue Bakayoko of Chelsea has spent time out on loan at AC Milan and Napoli.

Transfer News: Lyon make contact with Chelsea for Tiemoue Bakayoko

According to reputed journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t The Sun), Olympique Lyon have established contact with Chelsea over a move for Tiemoue Bakayoko. The out-of-favour midfielder could be relieved from his stay as the French side are looking to bolster their midfield. Chelsea might demand an amount of £20m for him.

Bakayoko was once one of the most promising midfielders in France during his rise with AS Monaco. After all, he was a part of the side that toppled PSG en route to the Ligue 1 title in 2017. Chelsea spent big on him to bring him to the club but it would turn out to be a disaster of epic proportions.

It seemed like Bakayoko could not take one correct step at Chelsea and his stint was filled with errors. He was soon shipped out on loan spells to AC Milan, Monaco and Napoli over the last three seasons. However, none of those sides signed him on a permanent deal and now the midfielder is back at Chelsea.

The Frenchman played some part in the preseason but looks unlikely to break into the first team in the presence of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.

Bakayoko ended up rejecting a new contract from Chelsea earlier this summer and that has prompted Lyon to come after him. Lyon are said to have made contact with Chelsea over a potential move. (h/t The Sun)

Bakayoko’s torrential Chelsea stay could be about to come to an end if Lyon are serious about this deal. Clearly, the midfielder is not in the club’s plans.

Keeping him for another season might be a huge risk as his contract ends in 2022 and he will be free to walk away for nothing. Chelsea would also be wise to cash in on him if Lyon come in with an offer.
