Chelsea on the verge of blockbuster signing after agreeing club-record €115m deal

Romelu Lukaku could stay at Inter Milan and not re-join Chelsea in 2023.

Transfer News: Chelsea agree €115m deal to sign Romelu Lukaku

According to transfer news from The Athletic, Chelsea have agreed to a €115m deal to sign Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian marksman is expected to earn a €12m-a-year wage packet at the Bridge.

Chelsea are all too familiar with Romelu Lukaku. The Blues recognised his talent at Anderlecht and signed him in 2011. However, he would only play one season at the club before being shipped out on loan to West Brom and Everton in the following year. Everton eventually signed him permanently in 2014.

Lukaku made a name for himself during those few years but it was not until his move to Inter Milan in 2019 that he pushed himself to the elite levels. His goal scoring exploits made sure that Inter Milan would end their eleven-year wait for the Serie A. Following that Chelsea had made him one of their prime targets for the summer transfer window.

The Blues look to have finally gotten their man at a club-record sum of €115m. Talks were said to be going on between Chelsea and Inter on Friday as there was an urgency to have him in the side by the start of the season next week. Lukaku was also said to be open to a move and a return to Chelsea piqued his interest. The Belgian will earn €12m per season at Chelsea.

More Chelsea News

A few more things are set to be hashed out between both clubs and then an official announcement can be expected rather soon. Lukaku’s signing was a much-needed one as Chelsea struggled to get goals from their strikers over the season. Thomas Tuchel will be hoping that issue will be put to rest once Lukaku steps out onto the Stamford Bridge turf for the second time in his career.
