Ex-Chelsea manager eyeing a reunion with highly-rated Blues’ academy product

Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi is still weighing up a switch from England to Ghana.

Transfer News: Ex Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri seeking Callum Hudson-Odoi at Lazio

As per a report by Italian outlet Il Messaggero (h/t Irish Mirror), former Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri, could pursue a move for Callum Hudson-Odoi if Lazio fail to land Filip Kostic.

The report adds that the 20-year-old Englishman is on the Serie A club’s transfer shortlist this summer. But it looks like the Eintracht Frankfurt wide-man is ahead of Hudson-Odoi in that list.

Sarri is not alien to the Chelsea winger’s abilities. In the one season they spent together at Stamford Bridge, Sarri handed 24 appearances to the young Hudson-Odoi.

His performances drew the attention of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich but he chose to stay at Chelsea and extended his stay in London by signing a new deal in September 2019. However, since then, he has gone down the pecking order.

Hudson-Odoi is one for the future

Thomas Tuchel’s reign at Chelsea has seen a few players go out of favour from the starting XI. And Hudson-Odoi seems to be one of them, as he has made just seven league starts under the German.

Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, and Kai Havertz all appear to be at the top of Tuchel’s pecking order in the attack. A move to Serie A could be good for Hudson-Odoi if he is seeking more game time.

Chelsea, who won the UEFA Champions League last season, are in a strong position right now with regards to their status in European football. To continue that, it is important to strengthen the current side and plan for the near future.

More Chelsea News:

On the pitch, Hudson-Odoi has shown that he has the potential to become a top player, which is why he is in and around the first team at his young age. And the Blues should look to keep him with their future in mind, no matter what bid they may be offered.
